ALDER JAMES: Cadiz Remodel Design Progress

Family Living in the Southern California Sunshine

Two of the best things about Southern California is our incredible coastal landscape and the year round mild climate. Designing a home in Southern California is easily inspired by those two features. Always celebrating the indoor/outdoor lifestyle. Half of the home is often what you can do to seamlessly join those two spaces. The Cadiz Home has been one of our favorite projects to work on. Much like our family, the clients are all about enjoying all that Southern California has to offer. A quick walk to the beach and corner widows for sunset viewings, the property had lots to offer. The single story home was perfect for an addition to function for our clients as their children grow. Taking inspiration from European ocean and countryside architecture, we wanted to transform the front of the home.. A gabled roof, large front entry, and covered patio work together to make a statement.

Making the family and their lifestyle as our biggest priority we wanted them to enjoy afternoons with the kids running in the front yard, neighbors to stop by and say hello, and friends to enjoy the sunsets Southern California is famous for. Joining the living room and dining room to maximize the space, the gabled roof gives an extra feeling of space throughout the main part of the home. The side kitchen entry gives space custom built in shelving perfect for beach gear or gardening tools. Keeping as many windows as possible to enjoy every moment of sunshine. Wrapping around to the rear of the home where the primary bedroom has a courtyard oasis, again drawing from those European roots. Giving the parents their own sanctuary to spend quiet mornings. Lush greens and drought tolerant plants work together to tie in the design while being conscious of our climate.
